A Fall Drink of Logan

The other day, I met up for lunch with my dear friend, Logan. Little did I know, but he was bringing someone along... his new VEST friend. He had a new puffer vest and when we were introduced I found out that they had met at a thrift store the day before while Logan was breezing through a clothing rack.

This casual lunch had turned into a meeting of my friend's significant other and from that lunch this is what I gathered:

1.) Logan was obviously very happy
2.) His new VESTIE obviously got along with the other items in Logan's wardrobe
3.) They way they fit together was perfect
4.) Just from the way Logan looked I could tell that his new VEST friend was a keeper

Take a look at the new, happy couple and check out Logan's own blog, A Tall Drink, where he talks about his new found relationship and so much more in the world of design!

Congratulations, Logan! I couldn't be happier for the two of you!

Installation "Met" with Admiration

It was a beautiful day for a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and gorgeous weather like this is always the perfect backdrop to showcase this building's stately, neoclassical exterior.
As with most older buildings, as the Met grew larger and additions were added, the architecture changed with the times resulting in very modern moments among a structure built on traditional lines. I found this ceiling in one of the newer wings.
Yet, in addition to a mixture of old and new, I love when nature is a factor in a building's design as seen below in the Egyptian Wing of the museum. Not only does this room showcase the amazing Central Park view, but it lets in buckets of light on the reflecting pond it houses.
But what happens when architecture IMITATES nature? Well, I traveled to the rooftop of the Met and found out first hand.
With only bamboo, colorful strings (I love the color palette by the way), and a lot of elbow grease, Doug and Mike Starn and their team of rock climbers have worked since April on a project called, "Big Bambu"
Yes, it's been going on for almost six months now AND it is going to be disassembled at the end of October, but I'm glad I was able to take a glimpse at this marvel.
This was from the center of the structure. AMAZING!
So, if you can make it before "Big Bambu" goes back to being just a big PILE of bamboo, please, do so, but either way make it to the rooftop of the Met because with a view like this it'll all be worth it.

An Email from Me to... Fall

Dearest Fall,

It's really been great seeing you these passed few weeks. I wanted to thank you for your weather and for now giving me the ability to not only wear jackets, scarves and sweaters, but also to layer any number of items in my wardrobe to create fresh, new looks everyday without the worry of dying from heat exhaustion.

I also wanted to send you some photos of some of my favorite autumnal ensembles inspired by you. Please, see below:

This was me the other Saturday in Red Hook, Brooklyn right on the water overlooking LADY Liberty!(say in English accent) I've had that jacket since highschool!
This was me on Wednesday when I was on my lunch break. I MADE my friend take this photo and at first she didn't want to, but when I told her it was for you she reconsidered.

This was me outside a WALMART in NEW JERSEY! I had to go there for work, but it doesn't matter where I'm going because getting dressed-up is important, especially when I know YOU'RE going to be around!
This last picture was me on Thursday when I took the day off work because my cousin came into town and I wanted to show her my neighborhood. The weather called for rain even though it  ended up sunny, but I wore my trench anyway just in case. What do you think?!
Obviously, there are some essentials that seem to be a constant in any of my outfits, like my Ray Ban wayfarers and my new Marni tote, but with a multitude of combinations otherwise, wearing these items seem like just adding my signature to the end of a letter!

Fall, thank you so much! I couldn't have asked for a better friend than you! Some of our other friends are a bit cold, others get heated so easily, and while some seem pretty even keel no one makes me feel as cozy as you! You're my BFF.

So happy you're around. You're always welcome anytime!

YOUR BFF,
Wayfarer Sunglasses and new Marni tote    x

And Now, A Time to Reflect...

110 Livingston Street, former home of the New York City Board of Education, can now be YOUR home. This 1925 built property has been revamped to feature all the modern day amenities with an historical backdrop, but when I strolled by the other day I noticed one of its more unforeseen features: 111 Livingston Street. Do you see it?

Yes, that geometric cast of light on the building's facade is from the windows of the building across the street, and when I saw it couldn't help, but take a photo and do exactly what 111 Livingston Street did: take a moment to reflect.

What's with Clothing Stores These Days?

The new Barney's CO-OP on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, NY opened October 14th and I took a trip there this weekend to check-in and see how things were going.

New shoppers were greeted by a denim shark in the window display. It was a very handsome shark... he must have good jeans.
I love how the mannequins were just "hanging out" like they were shopping, too.
Even the jewelry was laid out perfectly in its case. The only problem with the store was that there was NO SHOE SECTION...
...And then I found myself at an Urban Outfitters a few store fronts down the street and this is what THEIR shoes section looked like...
So, thank you, Barney's CO-OP for your new, immaculate store with beautiful displays and top-drawer atmosphere, but please, reevaluate your offerings and take a step toward a broader assortment. And to you, Urban Outfitters, you have a sole problem and I think I know which department you should look in.

Inspiration AND Awareness

I bought a Diptyque candle last week. I just love burning it because it really makes the entire apartment smell like, in this case, honeysuckle.

Anyway, I went on a walk with some friends yesterday in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn and stumbled across some treasures that made me think of years passed. We found this amazing old door, which could not be ignored. It was just so detailed and ornate. It made me wonder about all people that it’d met since it had been hanging there.

Then, not to far passed the old door was this vintage bike and  my eyes obsessed on how the blue color just POPPED against the brown backdrop. I love unexpected pops of color. The weather was perfect and it ended up being a truly inspiring afternoon.

By the way, if you are wondering what that candle had to do with my walk today, well, when I got back to my apartment it was only then that I realized I had left the candle burning the entire 3 hours I was gone.

So the moral: Be responsible while you’re being inspired.
